Below you can watch the 1992 recording of Phil Woods and my band performing "Sweet Willie ". He wrote this song as a dedication to trombonist Willie Dennis. He signed the conductors score and presented it to Willie's brother Fred who was at the concert! |

1992 Phil Woods After each Music Spectacular I would ask the featured guest artist for recommendations of possible future artists that they could put me in contact with. Clark Terry and Slide Hampton both recommended Phil Woods. Phil sent many charts for us to rehearse. Most of the Music Spectacular guest artists would come to Lakewood for a rehearsal the night before then head off to the hotel to get some rest before the 9:00am sound check. Once they heard the band they often offered to play on a few of our charts too! Here's a chance to listen and watch Phill Woods performing a Toshiko Akiyoshi chart "After Mr. Tang" and Bob Florence's "Big Band Treasure Chest". He also asked to be part of Denny DiBlasio's feature "Mumbles Returns" left for us by 1991 Music Spectacular guest artist Clark Terry!
